Air Cairo is established in conjunction with a consortium of Egyptian travel agents. It started operations in 1997. In 2003 EgyptAir acquired 40% (later increased to 60%) of the airline and operations were transferred to a new company, Cairo Avation. Air Cairo was then re-positioned as a new low fare charter airline and EgyptAir subsidiary operating domestic and international charter services.
