Concesionaria Vuela Compañía de Aviación, S.A. de C.V., operating as Volaris, is a Mexican low-cost airline based in Mexico City, and its operational base is located at the General Abelardo L. Rodriguez International Airport in Tijuana. The airline operates scheduled flights to Mexico and North America. Volaris is the country’s second largest airline after Aeromexico.
The pre-operations phase started in 2005 under the name Vuela Airlines. Major initial shareholders of the company were Grupo Televisa, Inbursa, Avianca (then TACA Airlines) and the Discovery Americas Fund. In 2010, it was announced that Televisa and Inbursa had sold their stake in Volaris. Scheduled revenue flights were launched in 2006.
