Caracas Simón Bolívar Airport

Simón Bolívar International Airport or Maiquetía “Simón Bolívar” International Airport is the main international air passenger gateway to Venezuela. In 2015 the airport handled about 5 million passengers. It handles flights to destinations in the Americas, the Caribbean and some in Europe. Simón Bolívar was a Venezuelan military and political leader who played a leading role in the establishment of Venezuela as sovereign states, independent of Spanish rule. The airport is a hub for Conviasa.
The airport opened in 1945 as the Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetía.
