China Airlines (CAL) is the largest airline in Taiwan. The airline, with flight operations from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, flies to destinations in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. China Airlines has a strong presence in the Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Northeast Asia. The airline started scheduled chartered flights between Taiwan and China in 2008. China Airlines has operated the Hong Kong route since 1967. China Airlines’ wholly owned subsidiary, Mandarin Airlines, manages regional flights to secondary cities with smaller capacity requirements.
China Airlines was established in 1959. During the 1960s, China Airlines was able to establish its first scheduled routes and and in 1966, Saigon became the airline’s first international destination. Trans-Pacific flights were initiated in 1970. China Airlines became a full member of Sky Team airline alliance in 2011.
