Sudan Airways is the national airline of Sudan, headquartered in Khartoum. As of October 2012, the company is fully owned by the Government of Sudan.
The carrier was formed in 1946 and started scheduled operations in the following year. Long-haul services started in 1959 between Khartoum and London via Rome; the so-called ″Blue Nile″ service. In March 2010, all Sudan-based airlines were banned by the European Union from flying into or within the member states. As of 2011, the airline serves domestic destinations and destinations in Africa and the Middle East.
