Chicago O’Hare Airport

Chicago O’Hare International Airport is an international airport located on the Far Northwest Side of Chicago, Illinois. It is the primary airport serving the Chicago metropolitan area. As of 2016, O’Hare is the sixth-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic and the third-busiest in the United States (2016: 78 million passengers). O’Hare has eight runways, more than any other major international airport. The airport serves a major hub for United Airlines and American Airlines, as well as a focus city for Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines.
O’Hare was constructed in 1942–43 at Orchard Place. The airfield was informally known as Douglas Airport. With the departure of Douglas; the airfield took the name of Orchard Field Airport. In 1949, the airport was renamed O’Hare International Airport to honor Edward O’Hare, the U.S. Navy’s first flying ace and Medal of Honor recipient in World War II.
