Ethiopian Airlines is Ethiopia’s flag carrier and is wholly owned by the country’s government. Ethiopian Airlines, was founded in 1945 and commenced operations in 1946 expanding to international flights in 1951. The firm became a share company in 1965. As of 2011, the airline is a Star Alliance member.
Its hub is at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, from where it serves a network of domestic and international destinations, more than any other carrier in Africa. Ethiopian is one of the fastest-growing carriers in the industry and is among the largest on the African continent. It is also one of the few profitable airlines in the Sub-Saharan region.
